All-Weather Thursday Three-For-All 66/1 Treble

Supplementing competitive cards over the obstacles at Market Rasen, Newbury, Sedgefield and Thurles are meetings from Southwell and Chelmsford on the All-Weather this evening.

Top Trainer

The North Yorkshire based Tom Tate has sent four runners to Southwell in 2019. Two of these have landed the spoils, returning at SPs of 10/1 and 13/2. His last four runners across the country have yielded one win and two seconds, so he could hardly have his string in better form.

Tonight he sends his mare Groupie to the Fibresand for the first time. She was a fairly useful juvenile for Richard Hannon who has slipped thirty five pounds down the weights for the Tate yard.

She posted an improved effort when dropped into Classified company for the first time at Wolverhampton last month. Beaten less than a length by a course specialist then, she looks sure to go close as she switches to Fibresand.

Top Jockey

Sean Levey has had a season to remember with two Group One successes for his boss Richard Hannon. He’s enjoyed a productive time at Chelmsford over the past year, partnering ten winners from just forty nine rides, another eleven of which have placed.

He travels to the Essex venue for just one ride tonight. The jockey partnered The Gill Brothers to success at Kempton in September on the gelding’s return from a 362 day lat off.

Sent off 33/1, he came with a sweeping run to collar a long odds on shot who’s now rated 82. That’s stand out form in this novice contest, a repeat of which would see him easily defy a penalty for the Ian Williams’ stable.

Course specialist

There’s no other track to which the old adage ‘horses for courses’ applies more than Southwell. The Fibresand lends itself to plenty of course specialists, of which a number are on display in the 7.40.

Alpha Tauri has thirteen course wins to his name, the latest just two runs back in March. He finished held in fourth on his return from a break however. The filly Atalanta Queen has only finished out of the frame in one of her seven starts, although she could only finish second in a weaker race when last seen and is higher in the weights today.

That leaves it open to Geography Teacher, who scored three times at this track for Roger Fell. He was having his first run here for his new stable when a running on second to a previous victor last week. Returned to a mile over which he scored in May, he ranks a very likely winner.
