Tips for Thurles Races
Located just 1.5km west of the town centre of the same name in County Tipperary, racing has taken place at Thurles since 1732. It usually only stages National Hunt racing, but in October 2018 it hosted an all flat card which replaced a jumps fixture due to the firm ground conditions.
Course: It’s a right-handed, undulating circuit of a mile and two furlongs. There is a descent going into the final bend before the straight so we like our tips to be travelling well into there in order to save some energy for the uphill finish.
Feature Races: The key races for our tips at Thurles come in the winter months. In January there is the Grade 3 Kinloch Brae Chase, won by future Cheltenham Gold Cup winners Don Cossack and Sizing John in 2016 and 2017. The same month has a Grade 2 Mares Novice Chase followed by a Grade 3 Novice Hurdle in February.
