Aidan O’Brien is a trainer to follow at all times generally but his record in Britain so far this season stands out a mile. He has had 16 runners on these shores thus far and has come away with eight winners, giving him a 53 per cent strike-rate.
The County Tipperary-based trainer is set to send just one runner over to York on Friday and you might want to add him to your notebooks. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Continuous was an excellent three-year-old and seemed to thrive as the season went on back in 2023. He was a good winner of the Group 2 Great Voltigeur here in the summer of that year and that race is a well established trial for the St Leger.
That form suggested stepping up to an extended 1m6f would be no problem for the son of Heart’s Cry, which he went on to prove unequivocally. A facile success then followed in the final Classic of the season and he was far too good for them on the day, stretching almost three lengths clear of the runner-up.
His four-year-old campaign was very underwhelming and his only win came in a pretty average Group 3 over the summer. There hasn’t been much to write him about in two starts so far this year either but if anyone can get him back to his best, it will be O’Brien.
Globetrotter Rebel’s Romance is a very smart horse over 1m4f and if the trip suits here, he looks like a massive danger. Sweet William was rock-solid last season and there’s no shame in his three defeats at the hands of Kyprios. With the division’s star missing here, perhaps Sweet William can get his day in the sun.
