First up was  Ebandi for Jamie Snowden, looking to go one better than his last two starts where he’d shown some impressive form. Despite the slight drift out (he went off Even money), we were always confident as he travelled beautifully through the race and then kept on comfortably to win by 8 lengths. He was rated 84 at his peak last October on the Flat and while he doesn’t hold any entries under a penalty he’s one to follow.

Moabit was one of the best backed horses of the day, tipped at 8/11 for the 2nd leg and going off at just 4/11 for Paul Nicholls. Sam Twiston-Davies barely had to move a muscle as he stayed near the pace, took up the running three furlongs out and made the rest of the field look like Blackpool donkeys. A winning distance of 16 lengths giving weight away all around was impressive and meant we were half way there.

The first sweat of the day was provided by Fawaareq – also the shortest price tip. Sent off 2/5 following two runner up spots in better races, Hamdan Al Maktoum’s charge had to battle all the way to the line to defeat Heir To A Throne, but showed plenty of heart despite hanging right. There’s more to come from him although he doesn’t look the most straight forward type.#

Finally last up was Sugar Baron for Nicky Henderson. The biggest odds selection, he was sent off 5/4 with Present Man the odds on favourite. However, we were confident that his class over hurdles would show and we’d always fancied him a better chaser. He looked in trouble 5 out as his jumping wasn’t quite as slick as his more experienced rival but when he turned into the home straight his superior pace showed and his jumping kept getting better. He winged the last three obstacles, picking up the lead two out, and landing our acca!
