Tips for Wetherby Races

Situated just 12 miles from Leeds city centre in West Yorkshire, Wetherby used to host purely National Hunt fixtures. But in April 2015 they had their first Flat card and now have racing under both codes throughout the year.

Course: Both the Flat and Jumps course share the same track which is a long mile and a half oval. It’s generally a fair track on the flat and you don’t get many hard luck stories. For the jumps it suits long striding horses for our tips that can freewheel down the long straights, not far off the pace.

Draw Bias: There is no great draw bias for our tips to consider.

Feature Race: The big contest each year at Wetherby is the Charlie Hall Chase in November which is a Grade 2 over three miles and a furlong. It’s often used as a starting point for the Cheltenham Gold Cup types and has been won in recent times by Silviniaco Conti, Cue Card and Bristol De Mai. At the same meeting there is also the Grade 2 West Yorkshire Hurdle.
