It’s Day 1 of the Ebor Festival at York on Wednesday and the first five races are live on ITV. After Adrian Wall’s brilliant outsiders piece on Saturday which yielded 20-1 and 14-1 winners, we’re back with more. Liam Bramall has selected three outsiders who could outrun their huge odds. This includes a 50-1 shot in the big race of the day, the Juddmonte International Stakes. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
The first race is a competitive sprint handicap and Mountain Peak (20-1, William Hill) has a solid each-way chance. Ed Walker’s charge won at Ascot two starts back before finishing eighth there last time out. Now that the handicapper has dropped him by a pound for that latest effort, he’s now just 5lb higher than when last winning. His regular pilot Tom Marquand returns to the saddle here and the pair have a decent record together.
High Definition (50-1, bet365) hasn’t hit the lofty heights expected of him since his juvenile campaign. He’s a talented horse who just lacks a turn of foot and was very unfortunate not to win the Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh in May. It was an enterprising ride from the front by Ryan Moore and similar tactics here could prove fruitful if executed to perfection. Returning to an extended 1m2f will definitely suit as it didn’t work out over 1m4f the last twice. Not without a chance at this price.
Withhold (20-1, bet365) has perhaps not been at his best in three starts so far this season. However, this has resulted in a slide down the weights. He now finds himself on a mark of 100 and hasn’t been on a mark in this region since winning the 2018 Northumberland Plate off 1lb lower. Has one more big race in him and this could be it.
