2:55 Newbury – Separate – 1pt win @ 14/1
SEPARATE was one of the Ebor Festival selections when tackling a hotter nursery than this and I thought she ran quite an encouraging race, unable to go the early gallop before seeing out the final stages strongly. That came over 6f in first-time blinkers (retained) and now she gets a crack at a furlong further. On breeding and the visual impression of her last two starts, it should suit. The yard have won three of the four renewals of this also and James Doyle is obviously a positive booking.
3:45 Ayr – Shallow Hal – 1pt win @ 16/1
In a typically open edition of the Bronze Cup, SHALLOW HAL can go well. The 3-year-old has got top weight to defy but comfortably won a C&D nursery at this meeting last year and coming back here, albeit to race on contrasting ground, could help him to bounce back. He ran well enough in a £100k York handicap when last seen in June and a gelding operation since then might bring about some improvement. He’s also drawn close to the near rail and could have been targeted at this.
