Harry Angel wins the Sprint Cup 2017

A seven furlong novice fillies contest on a Friday night at Haydock might not get the pulse going normally but it is a race on Friday that holds a very interesting stat. There have been four renewals of this race, Mark Johnston has had three runners in that time and all three have won!

Two of those went on to win at Group level later in their juvenile careers so it is a race that he uses for fillies he thinks plenty of. The filly in question was last seen in action at Royal Ascot so Johnston’s 2021 runner looks another with a big upside for the rest of the year.

As always, a busy Friday for our horse racing tips. Afternoon meetings at Doncaster, Newton Abbot and Sandown hand over to Bellewstown, Wexford and Beverley in the evening. We’ll have tips for them all as well as at Haydock where the stats runner is in action.

7.38 Haydock – Irish EBF Fillies’ Novice Stakes

Given that her dam won over two miles on the flat, it was a surprise that Out In Yorkshire managed to win over five furlongs on her debut. The step up to this trip of seven should’ve suited at Royal Ascot but that level looked beyond her and the ground turning soft was no help at all.

This surface is going to suit her better, drying all the time on Thursday afternoon. Both of her parents relished fast turf so the quicker the grass gets, the more she will like it. This is a significant drop in class from the royal meeting and given the record of her yard in this particular race, she has to be hard to oppose.
