The first annual meeting in Beverley was over 250 years ago in 1567, and it continues to provide an excellent standard of racing to this day.
Course: The five furlong course is notably difficult, being run up a slight slope with a more noticeable rise close to the line. The round course for longer distances features tight bends. Because of this, our Beverley tips often look for proven stamina over five furlongs and horses who like to be close to the pace over longer distances.
Draw Bias: There is a heavy draw bias towards lower drawn numbers, as it is difficult to make up ground out wide. Our Beverley tips will bear in mind that horses need to be slightly better than the norm to win from a higher number draw, which can be useful information when reading form for future races.
Feature Races: Beverley boasts two main feature races: the Hilary Needler Trophy, for two year olds in May, and the Beverley Bullet Sprint Stakes, for three year olds and above in August. Both are Listed races run over the minimum trip of five furlongs and attract competitive fields.
