Trainer travels 452-mile round trip to York with one ITV runner

Nakeeta beats Flymetothestars in the 2017 Ebor

The first day of racing at York every season is always a pleasure. A track that is very much for specialists, both in terms of the equine participants as well as human. A yard that did well at the track last year is noted as sending just a single runner on a 452-mile round trip to the track on Wednesday which immediately piqued our interest.

York is joined on ITV Racing on Wednesday afternoon by Newton Abbot, we will have free horse racing tips for all six races they are showing live. There are also meetings at Worcester, Dundalk, Bath and Perth for a nice variety mix with something for everyone.

1.40 York – Sky Bet Race To The Ebor Jorvik Handicap

Ralph Beckett is the trainer in question, sending just Sam Cooke to the Knavesmire in the opening contest. The horse has run at York once in the past when breaking his maiden back in October 2018. Interestingly enough, on that occasion, he was also the only runner on the card for Beckett.

Sent off joint favourite for the November Handicap at Doncaster at the backend of 2020, he was unable to live up to those market expectations. Despite that, it was a solid campaign, starting with a win first time up at Chester. That came on soft ground which gives plenty of hope that fresh and with rain forecast, things will be very much in his favour again.

A 452-mile round trip is not the only plus for the horses chances where Beckett is concerned. The yard had four winners and four seconds from just nineteen runners at the track in 2020 for a level stakes profit of £12.50, a rock solid return from a small number of runners.

He is yet to be sent off bigger than 6/1 on any of his career starts, heading the market on five of the eight times he has raced. With so much in his favour here and with being a long distance traveller, a double-figure price on offer at time of asking makes plenty of appeal with extra places on offer with most bookmakers.
