Thursday’s action: A trainer and jockey stat of note and Keane’s rare Salisbury visit
There are three angles which have the caught our eye across Britain and Ireland’s five meetings on Thursday and it’s interesting that Colin Keane heads to Salisbury for the second time ever. Ruth Carr and Joanna Mason have a very healthy strike-rate when combining at Beverley and they join forces at the Yorkshire track once again. Colin Keane heads to Salisbury
Juddmonte’s retained rider Colin Keane has only had one previous ride at Salisbury but the Irishman heads there for two more on Thursday, both of which have excellent chances.
Tiora Time represents the in-form Tom Clover yard and she was a respectable third on debut at Epsom last month, finishing two lengths behind the winner. Taking a step forward at Doncaster next time, she managed to get off the mark in comfortable fashion and should be in the mix here.
Serenetta is one of two runners in this race and the Ralph Beckett-trained filly showed promise when third on debut at Newmarket back in November. Well fancied at Kempton the following month, she duly obliged but the form perhaps isn’t the strongest. There’s plenty more to come from her however.
Ruth Carr and Joanna Mason at Beverley
North Yorkshire-based trainer Ruth Carr and jockey Joanna Mason have a strike-rate of 40 per cent when combining at Beverley and they join forces with one horse on Thursday.
Copper And Five has been around the block a fair few times and the experiences veteran has a decent record here at Beverley. Recent form suggests his best days are probably behind him, but having finished a close second off 1lb higher over course and distance in May, it would be unwise to rule him out.
Ahead of the handicapper
Oliver Cole’s Sydney Rock should be running off a mark of 74 according to the handicapper but now could be the time to catch him, as he runs off 4lb lower on this occasion. A narrow second over 7f at Chepstow last time out, he should be getting off the mark sooner rather than later.
