This 84/1 Aintree Day 1 Willie Mullins treble won’t go down well with the bookies

Willie Mullins at the 2018 Cheltenham Festival

Willie Mullins is a man who has been the subject of many bookies’ nightmares, as the powerhouse of National Hunt racing. He dominates on both sides of the Irish Sea and had 10 winners at the Cheltenham Festival. The County Carlow-based trainer has several chances on Day 1 of the Aintree Festival so we’ve combined them into a treble. Check out our free tips page for selections in every race at Aintree this week.

1.45 Aintree

Impaire Et Passe (3/1, betfred) looked like a superstar in the making when bolting up in the 2023 Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham. Things haven’t quite gone to plan since but he did win the Aintree Hurdle here last year and is a Grade 1 winner over fences this season. He will need to find some improvement to beat Jango Baie but you can’t rule that out.

2.55 Aintree

Gaelic Warrior (15/2, betfred) won the Arkle in emphatic style in 2024 and looked like a proper Champion Chase type in the process. Mullins’ seven-year-old has looked a little one-paced in two starts over 2m1f and the return to a significantly longer trip is certainly interesting. This son of Maxios has more than enough talent to win here but whether he will or not is probably down to him.

3.30 Aintree

If Lossiemouth (6/4, betfred) is ever going to beat Constitution Hill, it will probably be over this 2m4f trip. She remains unbeaten in four starts over this sort of distance and both of her Grade 1 wins this season have come over 2m4f. Back to her dominant best in the Mares’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival last time out, she’s unlikely to be far away, despite the fact that she apparently has 8lb to find with the favourite.
