The Fab Four: Adrian Wall’s ITV Lucky 15 could return £146,500

Waiting Patiently winning the Ascot Chase

Saturday promises to be a fantastic day of racing on ITV. The Ascot Chase is shaping up to be a belter, whilst we also have the Rendlesham and Kingwell to look forward to.

Not only that, we also have the Grand National Trial at Haydock, a race that will throw up some clues for the big one in April. In all, ITV Racing will show seven races.

Our resident horse racing fanatic Adrian Wall loves a juicy priced winner. He is back this week with his four big priced horses to watch out for at the weekend. Hopefully he can give all of our followers a cracking each-way Lucky 15 to get stuck into. It could return over £146,500 for a 50p unit stake.

2.05 Haydock – Donna’s Diamond (66-1)

This is a bit of a leap of faith but this 12-year-old looks too big a price to ignore. He was runner-up behind Emitom in this very race last year (sent off 28-1) and loves it here at Haydock.

However, it gets better – he won this very race three years ago, beating the hot favourite Agrapart. He is an older horse now of course but you can be sure connections will have him spot on for this and the price is insulting.

2.25 Ascot – Cloudy Glen (16-1)

Bolted up in the Southern National on heavy ground at Fontwell in November, beating Christmas In April by 13 lengths. Has been rather disappointing in two starts since, 5th at Sandown and pulled up at Chepstow when last seen.

The ground had good in the description both times though and he much prefers it heavier. Ground is likely to be on the heavy side at Ascot this weekend so he could bounce right back to his best for in form trainer Venetia Williams.

2.40 Haydock – Potters Legend (10-1)

Eleven-year-old who won the Veterans’ Chase at Warwick in November and just failed in a Grade 3 handicap at Cheltenham a month later. Well backed for the Veterans’ series finale when 5th behind Seeyouatmidnight at Sandown last month.

Runner-up behind a potential Ryanair Chase or Gold Cup winner in waiting Royal Pagaille at Haydock last time. No disgrace getting thumped by that Rich Ricci runner and this will be easier.

3.00 Ascot – L’Ami Serge (16-1)

Many would refer to this horse as a “wrongun” and for good reason I guess. A horse with an abundance of ability, he has always flattered to deceive. Usually seen travelling all over his rivals, he then spits the dummy out when push comes to shove.

Luckily, he might not have to push or shove if he’s at his best here. This is a three-time Grade 1 winner running in a handicap off 150. He is absolutely chucked in if Nicky can get him back to anywhere near his best.
