Sunday’s highlights: Andrew Balding at York, Harry Cobden stat and a St Leger tip
York has been a happy hunting ground for Andrew Balding so far this season and he has amassed nearly £2,000,000 in prize money at the track already this season. He sends three runners there on Sunday so we’ve assessed their chances. Harry Cobden has a 60 per cent strike-rate at Fontwell this season and he has one ride with a big chance. Andrew Balding at York
Leading trainer Andrew Balding is set to hit the £2,000,000 prize money barrier at York this season, having landed big races such as the Juddmonte International and the Yorkshire Oaks. He runs three there on Sunday and one horse in particular has a big chance.
Izuba was a little unlucky on debut at Ascot and kept on well to finish second, despite not getting a clear run. The step up to 7f should suit and it would be no surprise to see him go one better here.
Teumessias Fox hasn’t been in very good form for a while but he’s well handicapped on the evidence of his Kempton victory off a 7lb higher in March 2025. The seven-year-old is less effective on turf.
Double Rush has progressed well in handicaps this season and he was thrown in the deep end a little last time out, when sent to Newmarket for the July Cup. He’s entitled to be much more competitive at this sort of grade and a rating of 110 suggests he’s bang in the mix.
Cobden’s 60% strike-rate at Fontwell
Top jockey Harry Cobden has three winners from five runners at Fontwell so far this season and his only ride there on Sunday is No More Bolero. The James Owen-trained gelding has been in good form this summer and is unlikely to be far away once again.
Ante-post St Leger tip
Zia Zabel (40/1, bet365) shouldn’t be underestimated here and the lightly raced colt has the scope to improve significantly. Last seen finishing second to Causeway in a 1m2f Group 3, the winner went on to land the Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot and Zia Zabel was only a head behind him. This will be his first start for Harry Eustace if lining up and the best is yet to come.
