We headed to Nottinghamshire on Tuesday to host our fifth sponsored meeting of the year at Southwell Racecourse. Ourselves and myracing competition winners were treated superbly by all staff on course and it was also an amazing night for our followers not on the track as we hit an amazing five winners from the seven race card!
We provided selections and full race analysis for every race on the card and things looked to be going well from the very first race of the evening as Atlantic Storm proved to strong for the field in the myracing.com Handicap Chase, a five length victory that would pave the way for a successful night for his trainer Dan Skelton.
The next race was the second and final chase of the evening and at the head of the market stood Too Many Diamonds, a horse that we found difficult to oppose. Leading after 3 out he pecked on landing at the next, costing him momentum, but he soon picked up again to win nicely despite a reducing margin and bringing up a quick-fire double for the Skelton brothers.
After being advised at 16/1 before the meeting signs were encouraging for our next selection, Notnow Seamus, who was being well backed on course and went off an 8/1 chance. With Harry Skelton on favourite Cafe Au Lait the ride was taken by young 7lb claimer William Marshall who settled the horse early and tracked the leaders before hitting the front three out. After being headed on the lengthy run in it looked as we’d have to settle for minor honours but to both the horse and jockey’s credit our boy found gamely to score by half a length – GAMBLE LANDED!
We also had success in the fifth and sixth races, firstly with the Nicky Henderson trained Brave Eagle, another who tracked the leaders before hitting the front 2 out, being headed on the run in but holding on grimly to score by half a horse. That was followed by perhaps the easiest winner of the evening in Je Suis Charlie, a horse which champion jockey Richard Johnson always looked supremely confident on to cap of a fifth winner of the evening for myracing.
A number of people came to chat to us on course and it was great to meet our followers who won tickets from our Southwell competition as well as people who were new to myracing. Hopefully we’ll see you all at some of our remaining sponsored meetings for the year. Here’s what our competition winners had to say about the day:
