Horse racing is in Liam's blood and his biggest passion is jumps racing. He can often be found at his favourite tracks; Chepstow and Cheltenham in the Autumn when the National Hunt action kicks off. In his own words: "I'm often referred to as a walking form book, a trait which comes in handy from time to time. My proudest tipping success to date was landing a whopping 682-1 accumulator at Epsom."
There are 10 races live on ITV from Ascot, Newmarket and Redcar on Saturday so we’re back with three more potentially overpriced outsiders with better chances than their odds suggest. Read on for some Saturday runners with proven course records and some key trends to consider for the Sun Chariot Stakes. Pon Pon Dalia (33/1, Boylesports) has taken a step forward with each start to date and it’s very possible that she can continue that trend here. She was a good second over this trip on her penultimate start, before getting off the mark comfortably last time out, and further progress is anticipated.
Diligent Harry (22/1, bet365) landed a Newcastle Group 3 last term and also managed to win back-to-back Listed races on the all-weather at Lingfield over the winter. Last seen finishing third in a 5f Group 3 at Newbury, the return to 6f will help and he’s capable of making the frame here.
Poet Master (22/1, bet365) has been competing in higher grades than this for the last couple of seasons and he was an impressive winner of the Group 2 Minstrel Stakes back in 2024. Karl Burke’s six-year-old has dropped to a mark of 105 and he has plenty of form that suggests he should be competitive.
So Regal landed a novice contest here over a mile in May, despite carrying a penalty, and that was her only previous start at Ascot. John & Thady Gosden’s filly is entitled to win this Listed contest.
Tenability has won three of his four starts at Ascot and was second on his sole course defeat. He’s a two-time Listed winner this season and his form suggests he’s good enough to win here.
Hickory is a four-time course winner at Ascot and he has already landed two wins here this season. He got the better of Royal Ascot winner Moonfall here over a mile last time and shouldn’t be dismissed.
Favourites don’t have an excellent recent record in this race, with the market leader only coming out on top in four of the last 10 renewals.
Three-year-olds have also won six of the last 10, with four-year-olds winning the other four. Whilst that is prudent information, the three-year-olds in the field this year have plenty to find.
Seven of the last 10 winners were rated 113 or higher and the favourite Blue Bolt is the only horse who makes the cut with that in mind.
