Saturday ITV Outsiders: Owen fancies 33-1 Nicky Henderson runner at Kempton ⭐

It’s another fascinating day of racing on Saturday, with Kempton and Warwick flying the flag. The former hosts a card headlined by the ultra-competitive Lanzarote, with the Grade 2 Silvinaco Conti Chase being the class of the card. Warwick also hosts Grade 2 action, with the Hampton Novices’ Chase and Leamington Novices’ Hurdle on the docket alongside the Classic Chase.

We’ll have horse racing tips for all the action, including the nine races live on ITV4. The crossbar continues to be shattered with my outsiders, as Rikoboy provided another second-place last weekend. I’ve selected another pair of runners hoping to break this seconditis, and you can find all my analysis below!

2.40 Kempton – Coral Lanzarote Handicap Hurdle

Boreham Bill caused a 66-1 shock in the Lanzarote twelve months ago and I fancy Monte Cristo (33-1) to be another big priced winner. It’s rare to see Nicky Henderson runners at such a big price and he was a runaway winner over this course and distance on Boxing Day in 2020.

He shot clear of a very useful field and I think a return to this venue should bring out the best in him. His next run came at the Cheltenham Festival in the Coral Cup, where he looked set to snag a place before being badly hampered by a last-flight faller.

He’s now six pounds below that rating after a pair of below-par efforts, but it’s more than fair to assume he would have needed the run at Newbury last time. The lack of forecast rain will give him his perfect ground and with a good pace to aim at, he’s a strong each-way candidate.

3.00 Warwick – Agetur UK Ltd Classic Handicap Chase

The Classic Chase can be a good marker towards the Grand National and Minella Encore (20-1) was a real eye-catcher at Ludlow in the Corrie Cup. Facing a useful field, he looked the winner from a long way out, sent for the line off the home bend and readily coming 18 lengths clear.

The application of the blinkers clearly did the trick, as he travelled all over his rivals in a very polished performance. The handicapper has raised him nine pounds for that performance and I wouldn’t be too upset with that, as it could easily have been a harsher rise.

He has stamina to prove over this new trip, but he’s out of a half-sister to an Irish Grand National winner, so there could be more to come over these marathon trips. Better ground is ideal for him, so a lack of rain is certainly in his favour, and he’s a totally unexposed for an in-form stable.
