Maxwell
3rd May 2015 – Salisbury 15:15 – Winner, 11/2
Ralph Beckett’s Maxwell was one of our each-way double selections, the 11/2 chance surprising such market fancies as Soluble and Purple Rock to take home the 9f Betfred ‘Supports Jack Berry House’ Handicap.
The Freddie Tylicki-ridden Maxwell emerged from stall two to find himself in a share of third after a slow pace was set by the front-running Shadow Rock.
Tylicki got to work on the Big Bad Bob three-year-old just prior to the three furlong marker and managed to head the long time leader inside two-out. It looked as though the result might have been closer inside the last furlong though the Kennet Valley horse was able to quicken up again to put a length between himself and the front-running grey. Marco Botti’s favourite Soluble took third.
Fabricate
3rd May 2015 – Sailsbury 15:50 – Winner, 15/8f
The Queen’s Fabricate took home Salisbury’s 12f class five EBF Stallions Maiden Stakes, beating off Sir Michael Stoute’s Yarrow by two-and-a-half lengths.
Trained by Michael Bell, Fabricate successfully justified favouritism to follow up on a promising racecourse debut in which he came third behind John Gosden’s potential Derby contender Mr Singh at Newbury.
Fabricate had to be jostled into action upon leaving the stalls though managed to achieve a prominent position inside the first furlong, jockey Pat Cosgrave seeing his three-year-old into a share of second behind Uele River.
It wasn’t exactly the easiest of rides for Cosgrave who had to encourage his mount as soon as four-out but managed to head the long time leader with just a furlong-and-a-half left to run. Nearest market rival Nigel secured third.
Jazzi Top
3rd May 2015 – Newmarket 16:50 – Winner, 5/2
John Gosden’s Jazzi Top managed to secure the fillies’ listed Pretty Polly Stakes at Newmarket on 1000 Guineas Day, sealing her win from 15/8 favourite Zannda over the 10f trip.
Ridden by the in-form Frankie Dettori, the Helena Springfield charge was dropped in behind the eventual second and another pair of early pace setters, Forte and Namhroodah.
Dettori made good use of the space towards the standside rail at 3f out, the horse reacting almost instantly to take the lead from the nose-banded Zannda. Her length-and-a-half margin would be sustained to see her take victory.
In terms of future plans, Gosden kept his cards close to his chest but failed to rule out a run in next month’s Epsom Oaks.
‘Her half-sister (Izzi Top) was third in the Oaks, but her best trip was a mile-and-a-quarter. With this filly being by Danehill Dancer, we’ve got a slightly different pedigree to consider.
‘We could not be more pleased with her and Frankie felt the trip was spot on. We’ll keep all options open and discuss the situation.’
