Cowslip

17th March 2015 – Wetherby 15:30 – Winner at 8/1

Gary Moore’s mare Cowslip lined up at Wetherby on Tuesday looking to secure back-to-back victories following her triumph in a hands and heels handicap hurdle at Carlisle.

The straightforward six-year-old, who was again in the hands of an amateur rider over this 20f trip, was taking a step down to class five level and looked the class horse in the race when exploiting her prominent position to lead at the last.

She would go on to put seven lengths between herself and runner-up Abricot De L’oasis when 2lbs lighter.

Carraig Mor

17th March 2015 – Exter 15:55- Winner at 13/8

Carraig Mor is best remembered for unseating Noel Fehily mid-way through Kempton’s Kauto Star Novices’ Chase back in December, that race eventually picked up by Gold Cup winner Coneygree.

Yesterday he was down to class three level whilst also stepping down from 3m to 19f in pursuit of only his second ever chase win. The horse was never under threat in what was a superb front-running performance, eventually scooping a 41 length win after nearest market rival Dunraven Storm took a tumble four out.

I Shot The Sheriff

17th March 2015 – Wexford 15:50 – Winner at 11/8

I Shot The Sheriff was carrying almost a stone more than winner Forever Gold when 11 lengths off the Edward Cawley horse at Navan on his debut for Tony Martin.

The eight-year-old looked more comfortable at Wexford yesterday, snaking his way through the pack to challenge under Ruby Walsh at the third-last. Westerner-sired, the charge headed Velocity Boy on the run-in, extending to claim a seven length win when clipped in to evens favouritism at the starting post.

Purple ‘n Gold

18th March 2015 – Haydock 14:10 – Winner at 16/1

Purple ‘n Gold had been in and around the top three positions in most of his rides this season without troubling the winners enclosure. This all changed today when long time accomplice Kieran Edgar led him to victory at 2m at Haydock Park.

In what was the David Pipe charge’s third win at 16f hurdles, the horse was ridden prominently by the claimer and was still in touch in the closing stages, managing to exploit a mistake from the leader Handiwork at the second-last.

The six-year-old, who was carrying 10lbs less than the Steve Gollings mount, showed great resilience to stay on the premises as their other rivals fell away and managed to get his head in front to pip the 22/1 shot in the closing exchanges. This victory gives us our biggest winner of the week so far!
