Last week on the first edition of our Performer Of The Week, I highlighted Sea Of Faith after an eye-catching performance at Sandown that saw her shoot into Oaks contention. That market once again was shaken up on Saturday when another filly sprung a mighty performance at Newmarket. All the details are below, with today’s horse racing tips also on site now!
Costing a mammoth 775,000 euros as a foal, Williams Haggas’ Maqsad made it third time lucky to land a maiden at Newmarket last month. She showed a fantastic attitude to nose out a useful sort from John Gosden’s yard that day, sent off 5/4 for the Pretty Polly Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday.
She travelled like a filly going places, briefly shaken up in the final furlong to come clear by five lengths. Her turn of foot that day was quite frankly frightening, leaving some useful rivals standing in the closing stages.
That was over ten furlongs and the question now turns to whether she’ll stay twelve furlongs, but she certainly wasn’t stopping at Newmarket and looks a bright prospect to run a big race at Epsom later this month.
A daughter of Siyouni, her dam was placed at Listed level in France. She’s a half-sister to Listed winner Ame Bleue, with her extended family staying twelve furlongs. In terms of stamina, she looks a very likely stayer of twelve furlongs.
She holds an entry to the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot in June, though her immediate target is The Oaks at Epsom later this month, where she has slotted into the market as third-favourite.
