Partnership with 75% recent strike-rate team up for one Monday runner

Doncaster Lincoln

It’s another strong start to the week, as we’re treated to six meetings across the UK and Ireland. Leicester, Listowel, Gowran Park, Lingfield, Windsor and Pontefract are the venues in question and we’ll have horse racing tips for them all.

Looking through said cards, an interesting statistic appeared at Pontefract. William Haggas and Danny Tudhope have been a formidable pairing this season, teaming up for four winners from seven rides. Three of those have come in the last 14 days from just four runners, so it’s certainly a statistic to follow. They team up for just one runner at Pontefract tomorrow evening, find the details below!

6.45 Pontefract – Northern Commercials Iveco ‘S’ Way Handicap

The horse in question is A Star Above, who contested some very tough company last season. Breaking his maiden on three-year-old reappearance, he followed up with a handicap victory at Leicester in good style. Upped to Class 2 company thereafter, he was beaten a neck at Goodwood before heavy defeats at both York and Ascot.

Those runs were disappointing, but he’s looked better than ever this term, building on his reappearance to score at Newmarket last time. Far too keen in the opening stages, he scored with plenty in hand and that effort can be readily upgraded, especially as it was over further.

Back down in distance, this progressive sort should feel a bit more at home, given the way he travels through is races. A six-pound rise for that performance is far from harsh and he should have vast amounts of improvement left in the tank.

Haggas’ string are in flying form at present too, with a 28% strike-rate from his last 39 runners. He faces just three rivals in this contest too and they look far more exposed than him. Both Furzig and Restorer are older horses, while Al Madhar has failed to land a blow the last twice.

If he does take another step in the right direction, as expected, he could be a difficult horse to catch.
