Owen’s Outsiders: 50-1, 28-1 and 25-1 Saturday ITV tips

It’s a bumper day of racing on Saturday, with eight races live on ITV4. The feature contest is the Group 1 Sun Chariot, which sees Mother Earth and Snow Lantern lock horns once more. We also have racing from Ascot and Redcar, with the former hosting a pair of Group 3 races.

We’ll have horse racing tips for all eight races, with further tips from Gowran Park, Killarney, Chester, Fontwell and Wolverhampton. It’s been a slow start for the return of my outsiders, but I’m hoping the floodgates will open on Saturday. I’ve selected three horses who can out-run their prohibitive odds and their details are below.

2.20 Newmarket – £150,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes

There’s no doubt about it, this race is at the mercy of Fearby. By all accounts, he should be winning this comfortably. That being said, most bookmakers are paying five places and I’d be disappointed if Holiday (25-1) couldn’t reach the frame for Richard Hannon.

The stable has a fair record in races like this and having debuted in a Listed race, connections clearly think this son of Time Test has potential. He left behind that debut effort with a very promising fourth at Sandown, badly clipping heels and doing extremely well to finish as close as he did in the circumstances.

That form has already taken a boost, with the third finishing second in a Salisbury conditions race and the fifth going on to win at Lingfield. A drop back to six furlongs perhaps isn’t ideal, but it’ll be a strong test and that’ll help him considerably. With a clearer run on this occasion, he can surely fill the frame.

3.35 Redcar – William Hill Two Year Old Trophy

As mentioned in my outsiders masterclass article, juveniles can show explosive improvement from their debut. I think that’ll be the case with Too Funky, a daughter of Mayson who ran very green when sixth on debut at Sandown last month.

Sent off at 25-1, she had supporters in the market, but after travelling well into the race, she showed plenty of inexperience when ridden, hanging badly in the final furlong. It was still a positive run and she’s entitled to be much more streetwise on this occasion.

A step up to six furlongs should do no harm and she’s bred to be useful, being a full sister to the speedy May Girl. Beyond the front two, this isn’t the strongest Listed contest, and I’d fancy her chances of sneaking a place.

3.50 Ascot – Equine Productions “The Fall” Challenge Cup

Ascot is expecting plenty of rain on Saturday and that would suit Young Fire perfectly. This is perhaps more competitive than he’s used too, but he’s competitively weighted and he’s gone well off this rating in this grade this summer.

Despite the ground being better than he’d want, he wasn’t beaten far in a competitive event at York in July and he followed that up with a course and distance second off this rating at the Shergar Cup.

He ran flat back at York last time, but the better ground certainly won’t have helped and he can be forgiven one bad effort. The more rain, the better, and with astrong pace to aim at over the seven-furlong  distance, he can pick up these leaders late on under Jason Hart.
