Nigel Twiston-Davies Stable Update 13/01/2018

Nigel Twiston-Davies Weekly Column

Nigel was in a good mood again this morning, and happily passed on that The New One is on target for Haydock next weekend while Bristol De Mai and Wholestone will both head to Cheltenham in two weeks if everything continues to go according to plan.

Nigel’s Charity Bet

As always, we’ve given Nigel a £25 charity bet to place on a horse of his choice – and this week it will be on……

Count Meribel – 3.00pm Warwick Saturday

“The son of Three Valleys is one of my better novices and an exceptionally good-looking individual who will win more races, hopefully starting here. He wasn’t at his best over the three miles at Cheltenham but still ran well in defeat to be beaten less than three lengths in to second, and I think he will love the drop back in trip this afternoon. It is a decent field and he does have to give weight away thanks to his penalty but he is class and I do think he ought to win his fourth race at Warwick today.”

If Count Meribel wins, we’ll donate the winnings to the Injured Jockeys Fund!

Saturday Selections:

Ballykan 3.15pm Kempton

I am sending him here in the hope that the good to soft prediction holds good as he is clearly at his best on a decent surface and he really wouldn’t want it too soft on the day so everything is crossed. It is a competitive race without a doubt so I cannot be over confident but he will run a good race and is well up to winning this if everything goes his way.”

Ballycross 3.35pm Warwick

I run the two in this race and although Cogry is here on merit and will run well regardless, at these weights and in these conditions Ballycross may come out on top. He can’t have it too soft and any more rain will be a bonus, while the three miles five furlongs is right up his street and he will be plugging on when plenty of these have cried enough. I have added cheekpieces just to help him keep focussed at prime moments and as I am convinced he has a lot more to offer over fences than we have seen so far, I’m expecting a huge run at a price this afternoon with Zac Baker’s five pound claim an added bonus.”
