Nigel Twiston-Davies – Saturday & Boxing Day 2017

Nigel Twiston-Davies Weekly Column

Welcome to the first of our new look Nigel Twiston-Davies articles where we intend to update everyone on the better-known horses in the yard as well as asking for Nigel’s ideas of his three best chances for the weekend, charity bet included. This weekend is a little bit different with Saturday plus Boxing Day of course but here we go regardless.

Nigel’s Charity Bet

As always, we’ve given Nigel a £25 charity bet to place on a horse of his choice – and this week it will be on……

Bristol De Mai 3.05pm Kempton Boxing Day

“Everything has gone accordingly to plan and he arrives here as the highest rated horse in the race, and rightly so. Despite what others say he will not be in the slightest bit bothered by the track the trip or the better going and if he is in the same sort of form as he was last time out, then he will take all the beating once again. “

If Bristol De Mai wins we’ll donate the winnings to the Injured Jockeys Fund!

Saturday Selection:

Angel Antics 1.00pm Haydock

“Just the one runner for the yard today but I am quite sweet on the chances of my filly who was a good fourth last time out at Newbury and will do even better here. The heavy going and the added quarter mile will certainly play to her strengths and I am expecting a much-improved performance. Willie Mullins sends over Court Artist so this won’t be a stroll in the park and the race has attracted a small but select field, but I am more than just hopeful here and she could go off at a decent price as well.”

Tuesday (Boxing Day) Selections:

Ballyoptic 1.55pm Kempton

“He won his first chase at Exeter with any amount in hand and trust me, he is a very exciting horse. He did disappoint me at Cheltenham next time out when only second but on better ground this afternoon and over a course and distance that should suit him perfectly, I am confident of a huge run with a win the target despite the class of the opposition.”

The New One 2.30pm Kempton

“Of course he is up against it with Buveur D’Air in the field but he is the second highest rated horse in the field and you can never run scared of one opponent. He is in great form at home once again and has come out of his last race in fine fettle and if there are any chinks in the favourite’s armour he will be there to take full advantage.”
