Nigel Twiston-Davies – My Runners on New Year’s Day 2017

We spoke to a cheery Nigel this morning who started by wishing you all a Happy New Year before going through his runners for New Year’s Day. Foxtail Hill is running a temperature and therefore will not be taking his place in the 2.00pm at Cheltenham but we still have three horses to at least consider.

Last week’s record for the Twiston-Davies stable (24th to 30th December inclusive): 22 runners, no winners, 6 places, -£22 to £1 level stakes

Boxing Day Runners (in race time order).

Belmount 12.50pm Cheltenham

“A big strong stamp of a chaser who has already won twice this season at Newton Abbot and Hereford. Down a pound today he looks attractively weighted over a trip he appreciates and I’m hoping for a big run this afternoon and expect him to go pretty close with Sam riding for me.”

Cogry 2.35pm Cheltenham

“It seems reasonable to call him unlucky so far this season over fences with two falls, unseating Ryan Hatch at Aintree and being brought down here at Cheltenham through no fault of his own! He continues to work well at home so I am sending him over hurdles for a bit of a confidence booster. He looks well weighted over the smaller obstacles and I feel he could pull it off this afternoon.”

Atlantic Grey 3.40pm Cheltenham

“In at the deep end here in this Class One bumper and has an awful lot to find against five unbeaten horses and part of his education. He can only learn from this and will get better with experience, I do like him a lot but this is probably asking too much of him though he won’t be disgraced.””
