Nigel Twiston-Davies – My Runners 22nd & 23rd April 2017

Nigel Twiston-Davies Weekly Column

From Cheltenham to Aintree to Ayr as the big National Hunt meetings continue, and we spoke to Nigel this morning about his horse’s chances this weekend with a few well worth considering according to the man who should know……

Nigel’s Charity Bet

As always, we’ve given Nigel a £50 charity bet to place on a horse of his choice – and this weekend the money will be on…..

3.55pm Ayr – Benbens each way at odds of 33/1!

“I like him a lot and those who set the odds seem to have forgotten that he was returning from a break of thirteen months when running well for a long way in the Midlands National at Uttoxeter. He will love the good ground expected on Saturday and I think he is overpriced and well worth an each way bet despite the competitiveness of the race.”

If Benbens wins or places, we’ll donate the winnings to the Injured Jockeys Fund!

Saturday’s Other Runners:

1.40pm Ayr – Calett Mad

“He has been running well enough in some very hot races lately at Cheltenham and then Aintree but must have a better chance put in to a novice handicap against rivals who are perhaps nearer to his equals. It looks the sort of race he should go well in and I think he has a pretty good chance of winning or placing this afternoon.”

2.10pm Ayr – Flying Angel

“I was over the moon to see him win at Aintree after such bad luck earlier in the season and although he takes on the runner up (Cloudy Dream) at the same weights I can see no reason why we won’t come out on top again.”

3.55pm Ayr – Cogry

“I didn’t really think he would get in to this race but he has, and fully deserves to take his chance. Jamie Bargary takes a useful three pounds off his back which can only help his chances, and we won’t be surprised if he runs a big race.”

5.05pm Ayr – Crievehill

“He is a very nice horse who I think an awful lot of and although he has top weight, Tom Humphries claims three pounds and I am expecting a big run regardless. The handicapper has also dropped him three pounds as well and he is not without a chance today of adding to his Lingfield victory.”

Sunday Runners:

3.10pm Wetherby – Celestial Dancer

“Still a maiden after seventeen starts on the flat and I’m hoping hurldes may yet bring the best out in him. One to watch for now though.”

4.40pm Stratford – Ballycash

“First time over fences today for Ballycash but he jumps well at home over the schooling fences and I’m hopeful of a very good run first time out – fingers crossed.”
