Nigel Twiston-Davies – My Runners 11th and 12th March 2017

Nigel Twiston-Davies Weekly Column

It comes as no huge surprise to see the yard having a comparatively quiet weekend ahead of Cheltenham next week but we made all the arrangements for the phone calls pre Festival and will be getting Nigel’s opinions up bright and early before the likes of Ballyandy, The New One, Bristol De Mai and so on take their chances at Prestbury Park, so watch this space.

Nigel’s Charity Bet

Tintern Theatre 1.50pm Sandown 10/1 each way- Best Odds Guaranteed

A £25 each-way bet will be placed with any returns being donated to the Injured Jockeys Fund

Saturday runners:

Tintern Theatre 1.50pm Sandown

“A nice valuable handicap that we had to have a go at with our six year old, who has been running well all season and deserves to take his place. It is a very strong field as you would expect for £65,000 or so and although I can’t exactly call him a banker, he is primed to run well and ought to prove very difficult to keep put of the frame at a double figure price – I am very hopeful of his chances.”

Southport 2.15pm Hereford

“He has run well all season and although he is right up there near the top of the weights, I am pretty hopeful that he is up to it. Jamie Bargary takes off three pounds and is great value for his claim, and I’ll be surprised if he isn’t there or thereabouts again this afternoon.”

Sunday runners:

Count Meribel 2.20pm Warwick

“I felt he ran a really good race at Towcester last time out at the beginning of February and perhaps he deserves a change of luck after four places in a row. Most of his opponents here are unknown quantities, but on the form book I have to be more than hopeful he can win his first race on Sunday afternoon.”

Yanmare and Deputy Commander 3.55pm Warwick

“I have grouped them together here as I really cannot choose between them to be honest. Yanmare is inclined to stay on late in his races and could go well over this marathon trip off bottom weight, while Deputy Commander is stepping up in trip which I am hoping will bring further improvement. I will be more than happy if either one of them comes home in front this afternoon.”
