Nigel Twiston-Davies – My Runners 23rd July 2017

Nigel Twiston-Davies Weekly Column

A bullish Nigel spoke to us on the phone this morning as he starts the build up to the jumps season “proper” when the ground starts to ease, and Nigel reports all the better-known horses are now back in training and all look an absolute picture ahead of the new campaign. “Excited” was the word Nigel used which sums things up nicely, and I am sure we are all looking forward to the yard providing us with plenty of winners in the months ahead.

One runner again for the weekend for the stable so by definition he again becomes the charity bet, though NTD did seem to think he had a decent enough chance as you can see below!

Nigel’s Charity Bet

As always, we’ve given Nigel a £50 charity bet to place on a horse of his choice – and after his each way option finished second at 8/1 last weekend we are all hoping to go one better on Sunday afternoon.

Red Riverman 3.10pm Stratford Sunday

“He is pretty lightly raced for a nine-year-old with just the eleven starts over the larger obstacles (and was off the track from December 2015 to earlier this month with a hind leg injury), but ran really well on his return at Cartmel when half a length second to Domtaline. I was delighted with that but over the moon when he won by six lengths next time out at Uttoxeter with plenty left in the tank if needed, and he seems to be in the same form or better at home as well. He has been put up six pounds for that, but Jamie Bargary takes three of those off his back with his claim and although I would prefer some overnight rain to soften the ground, he is in good form and won’t be far away again on Sunday afternoon.”

If Red Riverman wins, we’ll donate the winnings to the Injured Jockeys Fund!
