‘It’s going to be bottomless’ – Three heavy ground horses to follow at Exeter

Exeter Racecourse

There’s a competitive seven-race card scheduled to take place at Exeter on Friday and the ground conditions are going to be very testing. Frankly it’s going to be bottomless and it’ll be very hard work to get through the ground. With this in mind, you’ll be on the look out for horses who are likely to thrive whilst their rivals get stuck in the mud. We’ve picked out three horses to follow at Exeter with proven records on heavy ground. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

1.30 Exeter

Sporting Ace is a relatively consistent sort who runs his race more often than not. Neil King’s eight-year-old is the only runner in the field to have won on heavy ground. The gelding is yet to finish outside of the first two in two starts on heavy and he should have a significant advantage here. Currently rated just 2lb higher than his last winning mark, he’ll be bang in the mix.

3.40 Exeter

Take Your Time has the scope to progress further over fences and he has an excellent record in heavy ground. Both of his chase wins have come on heavy and he shapes as if the step to an extended 3m6f will be right up his street. You can put a line through his last run which came on ground that was too quick and the performance wasn’t an accurate reflection of his ability. A much better performance is expected this time and Harry Cobden is on board.

4.10 Exeter

Bells of Peterboro has two wins and a second to his name in four starts on heavy and that certainly bodes well for his chances here. Tim Vaughan’s grey was looking good when his main rival fell two out at Chepstow last time out. That incident left him well clear and he went on to score by a very wide margin despite being eased down on the run-in. A 4lb rise is more than fair and he should go close once again.
