‘It’s about time she got off the mark’ – Five tips for Day 5 of the Galway festival
We’ve got entertaining racing everywhere we look this week, with both Glorious Goodwood and the Galway festival taking place. There’s Group 2 action on offer at the former but here we’re going to take a look at Galway’s card, so Liam Bramall has picked out five tips to follow, one of which is a Ballydoyle filly with a big chance. 5.30 Galway
Harry Cobden makes the trip over to Galway for two rides on Friday, one of which will be on Vicar Street for Willie Mullins. He landed a Roscommon maiden hurdle last summer, before finishing second in a Listed novice here, and should improve plenty for his latest run over fences in June.
6.00 Galway
Donnie Devito is yet to win over fences but he has produced some fair efforts in defeat. Ross O’Sullivan’s gelding was only a length behind the winner when third in a course and distance beginners’ chase last summer and there’s scope for further improvement in handicap company.
6.35 Galway
Galway’s feature race is the €110,000 Guinness Handicap and it could go the way of Willie Mullins. Night Moon could hardly have been more impressive when bolting up by a wide margin at Fairyhouse last time out and having won over this trip for previous connections, dropping back to 1m4f will be fine.
7.10 Galway
Cosmetic is a close relative of Group 1 winners Hermosa and Hydrangea so it would be a little disappointing if she fails to win in maiden company. It’s about time she got off the mark and having produced a much better effort when second last time, this could well be the day.
8.10 Galway
Trainer Harry Rogers is in fine form at the moment and is operating at a strike-rate of 50 per cent in the last fortnight. He runs last time out winner Cooley’s Mist here and there could be more to come from the four-year-old. That was his first victory and he should go close, despite a 5lb rise in the weights.
