Ireland-based trainer Diego Dias has had 12 previous runners in Britain and two of those have won. None of the runners have come at Carlisle however but he’s set to send one to the Cumbria track on Monday. It could be lucky number 13 for the trainer and the horse in question is set to line up in the opening race on the card. Call Margot cost £40,000 and the daughter of Blue Point is distantly related to a Group 1-winning sprinter over five and six furlongs. You would imagine that she’s going to be capable of winning races with that in mind and so you wouldn’t want to rule out a big run here.
Making her debut in a Listed race at the Curragh on debut, she finished last of the six runners but looked in need of the experience. She was very keen in the early stages before getting outpaced inside the final furlong and the two-year-old will appreciate the drop in grade.
Dias is yet to have a winner in Ireland this season, despite having had 19 runners, so that’s an alarming statistic which needs to be considered. Call Margot is likely to appreciate the stiff 5f here, as the emphasis on stamina reduces the risk of getting outpaced again.
There are two previous winners in the field, including Tim Easterby’s improving filly Argentine Tango. She was a winner at Pontefract last time out and was runner-up behind Lily Agnes winner Ali Shuffle before that. Miss Piggle scored on debut for Hugo Palmer and shouldn’t be dismissed either.
Paul Mulrennan has been booked for the ride on Call Margot and the experienced rider is operating at a respectable strike-rate in the last fortnight. Dias’ filly is entitled to take a step forward from her debut and this race looks significantly easier than her previous task.
