Inside The Notebook – Week 2 06/12/2016

Welcome to week 2 of our inside look at the myracing.com notebook.  It’s been another busy week in the racing world with an excellent meeting at Fairyhouse, races over the Grand National fences at Aintree as well as the Tingle Creek at Sandown, After all that it’s time to open the pages at what has caught the eye!

FRIDAY 25/11/2016

• Cresendo – Only a lowly rated three year old but his best runs have come on the sand at Dundalk. Having run well over a mile the time before, a step down to 6f was a risk and having missed the kick, he rattled home from the back. Looks likely to pick up a small handicap or two over the winter.
• Indian Brave – Showed glimmers of promise as a novice and improved for the step into handicap company. Time may prove that he was beaten by a smart one in Boyhood at Doncaster and should have little trouble winning a handicap sooner rather than later.
• Alpha Male – Not often a Nicky Henderson horse is sent off at 66/1 but after flopping on debut he was ignored in the betting at Newbury. He looks far from the finished article but a step up to three miles in time should see plenty of improvement.

Sunday 27/11/2016

• Cobolobo – A great looking type for Jonjo O’Neill, he took the eye both in the paddock on his Fontwell debut as well as in the race, travelling well for a long way before tiring. He was yet to be asked for an effort when badly hampered 3 out at Leicester, the ability is there for handicaps after one more novice run.

Monday 28/11/2016

• Gallifrey – Lucy Wadham has had less than 20 juvenile runners in the last five seasons so for one with a middle distance pedigree to run so well on debut was a little surprising. It was probably a sound enough race and she could be one to follow when stepped up in trip next year.

Tuesday 29/11/2016

• Bingo D’Olivate – Held up in a race that developed into a sprint, he did well to get as close as he did at Lingfield having blundered his way over the 2nd last just as the pace lifted. Still looks fairly treated off 125 for next time out.
• For Instance – 2nd at Southwell on Tuesday, he should go one better when next seen. The winner looks a well above average recruit for Tom George and with a 12 length gap to the 3rd, the form should prove solid

Wednesday 30/11/2016

• Mornington – Took a while for the penny to drop on a return from a break at Lingfield. The winner looks a decent type so the runner up looks worth following this winter with improvement likely.
• Mitigate – Stayed on well up the inside at Kempton on debut while the winner swept to the lead down the middle of the track. David Elsworth’s horses tend to come on a fair bit for the initial experience so she should be more streetwise next time.

Friday 02/12/2016

• Loose Chippings – Nibbled at in the market on debut, staying on well from the back from a wide draw under a seven pound claimer. The winner is rated 76 and there might be a maiden to be found with this lad before handicaps beckon.

Saturday 03/12/2016

• Able Dash – Stepped up in trip on handicap debut, he stayed on past beaten rivals on the run in. He should find easier races than that this season and with another step up in trip possibly suiting, he would be of interest next time.
• Capital Force – Second on debut, splitting a pair of good looking recruits, he looks to have a decent future. His dam is a half sister to eight time graded winner Watson Lake, he’s likely to be well capable of breaking the duck at the second attempt.
• Energia Flavio – Relatively exposed but ran a sound 3rd at Wolverhampton on Saturday night. That was his debut for the in form Ian Williams, who often does well with others cast offs and from a mark of 74 (originally rated 100 when going handicapping) there should be races to be found with him this winter.
