Infographic: Cheltenham Gold Cup Preview & Trends

It’s the big one, the Cheltenham Gold Cup! The climax of the Cheltenham Festival 2016 is run over three mile and two over 22 fences for a pot of £575,000.

With Vatour running in the RyanAir Chase on Thursday, many punters have been unhappy at the switch. The form of Willie Mullins’ horses is sighted as the reason Rich Ricci pulled out Vatour, but Ricci apologised and paid out on winners for the Gold Cup!

Key stats and trends to consider if you fancy a punt on the Gold Cup are:

  • 1/3 Paul Nichols runners have placed since 2006
  • Willie Mullins has never won the Gold Cup, but this should be his year after finishing second in the past three years
  • From the last 20 winners, 15 have been Irish trained
