Royal Ascot will soon be upon us but we have some competitive weekend action to look forward to beforehand. ITV will be showing seven races from York, Sandown and Chester live, which means we’re back with our usual feast of outsiders. Liam Bramall has picked out three 33/1 shots that may have been unfairly overlooked in the market. Why not check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Modern Times (33/1, bet365) is making his first start for Tim Easterby and is likely to have benefitted from a few months off. The son of Too Darn Hot wasn’t beaten far when fourth in a competitive race at Newmarket in January and reappears off the same mark here. He’s lightly raced enough to suggest that further improvement is possible and should be getting off the mark sooner rather than later.
Atlantic Gamble (33/1, boylesports) was hugely progressive last term and completed a six-timer, rising 27lb up the handicap as a result. It’s therefore no surprise that the handicapper caught up eventually but he’s on his way back down now. Currently rated 1lb lower than when winning at Newbury in September, a return to winning ways could be on the agenda.
The Dragon King (33/1, bet365) won a valuable sales race at Newmarket as a two-year-old and will improve loads for his seasonal debut. Clive Cox’s gelding was a winner in handicap company as a juvenile too and has been dropped 1lb since his last run. It’s possible that he requires some help from the handicapper but he deserves another chance or two before we reach that conclusion.
