Between five furlongs and the extended seven furlongs at Beverley Racecourse, you simply have to be drawn fairly low to have a reasonable chance of winning. Up there with Chester, Beverley has a massive draw advantage for runners that are drawn low.
This is because the track goes downhill and right from the stalls and if you don’t get the inside rail you are pushed wide. If you are wide, you will lose many lengths on the field and it really compromises your chance of success.
Adrian Wall has highlighted three horses running at Beverley on Thursday who look too big a price. Best of luck if you follow.
Buenos Dias has a lovely pedigree. His dam was a 1m winner, and she is a half-sister to 6f 2yo Group 2 winner Lilbourne Lad, and is out of a 1m winner from the family of Irish St Leger winner Dark Lomond. Sent off 13/8 favourite on debut at Brighton 12 days ago, he flew home from rear to take third late on and should strip much fitter here now.
Brumell took advantage of a low draw when winning over C&D last May and the four-year-old has another good draw here in stall five to attack from. He won at Newcastle in November after wind surgery and although disappointing there when last seen, he goes well fresh.
Bowen Island is an awkward ride, but made the frame in four of his five starts last season and was a solid second at Southwell over 7f on return last month. He’s a front runner so might get a soft lead here from the rail draw.
