Hayley Turner – A Glittering 15 Year Career in Stats

As the finest British female jockey to grace the horse racing turf, recently retired Hayley Turner really has had a glittering career to remember.

Not only did she ride a total of a whopping 761 winners, she was the first woman to ride a 100 UK flat winners during a calendar year. That incredible feat in 2008 resulted in her being voted Channel 4’s racing personality of the year.

A 12 year partnership with M.L.W Bell would bring her the most success with 34% of her overall winners coming from this formidable pairing. Sadly though, this ended in 2013 after she endured a horrible injury to her pelvis and with that, her presence among the horse racing elite somewhat diminished.

Even so, what Turner brought to the horse racing world for female jockeys in a male dominated industry will be remembered and cherished for years to come.

She’ll continue her racing career as a broadcaster on At The Races, inspiring the next generation of upcoming female jockeys to carry on competing at the highest level.
