The final day of action at Newmarket’s July meeting is the headline act on a bumper day of racing on Saturday July 14th. Ascot and York join the action from headquarters to make up the ITV coverage, with plenty of brilliant racing for us to sink our teeth into. The feature race of the day comes from the home of flat racing in the form of the 2018 renewal of the July Cup, as the King’s Stand winner Blue Point locks horns with Commonwealth Cup hero Eqtidaar. Away from Newmarket, Ascot’s card is headlined by the Summer Mile and York plays host to both the Silver Cup and the John Smith’s Cup. One of the best sprint contests of the year last campaign, the July Cup, went the way of the ‘boys in blue’ in the form of Harry Angel, they look to go back to back this campaign with King’s Stand hero Blue Point. He flew home late off a frantic gallop that day and a return to six furlongs will not be any concern, what may worry him though is his record away from Ascot. Commonwealth Cup winner Eqtidaar looks to give Sir Michael Stoute a fourth win in the race, while Limato is finally dropped back to a sprint trip.
David Elsworth has never won the John Smith’s Cup, the feature race at York on Saturday, looking to put that fact right with the rapidly progressive Dash Of Spice. He was extremely impressive when winning the Duke Of Edinburgh at Royal Ascot last time, scooting clear despite hanging badly late. He’s a potentially group class horse and a victory here would cement those claims.
