Guide to Saturday’s Racing

The Arc takes centre stage in Paris this weekend and you can find our Longchamp tips for Sunday on the site. But first we have seven races live on ITV4 today where the feature contest is the Group 1 Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket. The dependable Laurens is aiming for her fifth Group 1, but Andre Fabre sends over the talented Wind Chimes who’ll be no pushover. That is joined by action from Ascot who have Group 3 and Listed action alongside the Challenge Cup, a competitive and valuable handicap over 7 furlongs. There is also the Two Year Old Trophy from Redcar which rounds off today’s ITV Racing tips.

Laurens looks for Group 1 #5

One of the stars of the season has been Karl Burke’s Laurens and when last seen in the Matron Stakes on Irish Champions Weekend, she claimed the scalp of none other than Alpha Centauri (who has sadly been retired since due to injury). That was a mighty performance from Laurens and she doesn’t know when she’s beat, showing grit, courage, determination and above all, class. It could be significant that master French trainer Andre Fabre, who won the race in 2015 with Esoterique, sends over his Prix du Moulin runner up Wind Chimes. She boasts very strong form behind Recoletos last time and she won’t just be coming over for a day out. Veracious is improving all the time for Sir Michael Stoute and you have to feel that we haven’t seen the best of her yet. Hopes were high for Clemmie at the beginning of the campaign but things haven’t quite materialised, although she looked much more her old self when 3rd in the Matron Stakes last time. A bold showing from her certainly wouldn’t be a surprise.

Hat-trick bid for rejuvenated Limato

It was a miserable start to the campaign for dual Group 1 winner Limato with 10th, 13th and 11th placed finishes in his first 3 starts and things were looking bleak for Henry Candy’s star. But he’s got his campaign back on track with a couple of comfortable Listed successes and well deserves his return to Group company in the Bengough Stakes. It’s a competitive race though with Stewards’ Cup winner Gifted Master in there alongside French Group 3 2nd Laugh A Minute. Sir Michael Stoute’s Dream Of Dreams has been in good form recently with close places at Group 2 and 3 level, he is very dangerous if things drop his way.
