Guide to Glorious Goodwood Day 4

Goodwood Racecourse

We’ve reached the penultimate day of Glorious Goodwood, with Day 4 of the meeting headlined by the Group 2 King George Qatar Stakes, a five-furlong sprint. Battaash aims to retain his crown that he won twelve months ago and he looks a formidable force to do so on these terms.  We also have the Golden Mile Handicap, with a twenty strong field lining-up for this highly competitive handicap event. Our Glorious Goodwood Tips can be found on site now for another bumper day of action!

Battaash looks to go back to back in the King George

It was twelve months ago in this very contest that Charlie Hills’ Battaash annouced himself as a top sprinting prospect, decimating the field to win impressively by two lengths. He returns this season with a penalty to contend with thanks to a subsequent Group 1 victory, but he’s rated at least ten pounds clear of all his rivals and quite simply looks a class apart, so another victory in the race is surely on the cards. His only real danger looks to be Sioux Nation, but Aidan O’Brien’s horses have been putting in some poor performances this week and his leading sprinter needs something extra to be defeating the aforementioned rival.

Two of the best possible for Threading

It was at this meeting twelve months ago where Threading made her debut, winning a maiden contest by six lengths in impressive fashion. Twelve months on, she returns to the Sussex Downs a Group 2 winner and placed at Group 1 level, only finding Alpha Centauri too strong at Royal Ascot in the Coronation Stakes. She sets the form standard for Mark Johnston, with her decimation of a useful field at York three starts ago a brilliant piece of form. She’s tactically versatile and her latest run at Newmarket can be ignored, as she’s now run three shockers at that venue. Back at Goodwood, she should prove a tough nut to crack.
