Guide to Glorious Goodwood Day 2

Goodwood Racecourse

After a brilliant first day of Glorious Goodwood, we quickly move on to Day 2, with two group races to sink our teeth into. The feature race of the day is the Sussex Stakes, with the classic generation once again clashing with their elders in a bid for supremacy. Lasy year’s Vintage Stakes winner Expert Eye bids to gain back to back wins at the Festival, clashing with the unbeaten Without Parole. Our Glorious Goodwood Tips can be found on site now as we get into the nitty-gritty of the week!

Expert Eyes a Glorious double

Twelve months ago Expert Eye looked the real deal when slamming a smart field to win the Vintage Stakes by five lengths, before the wheels fell off his wagon thereafter. He was back to form in some style at Royal Ascot though, winning the Jersey Stakes by a widening four lengths at the finish. He made a useful field look completely ordinary and finally showed that devastating turn of foot once again. A repeat of that run sees him as a very tough nut to track today, as he squares up to the unbeaten Without Parole. The St James’s Palace winner has looked the part this year and has obvious claims if replicating that brilliant Ascot run.

National Hunt warriors spice up a tasty opening affair

On ratings, Lil Rockerfeller is rated sixteen pounds clear of Coeur De Lion over timber, but they square off in the opening 2m 4f handicap with the latter giving his rival ten pounds. Neil King’s Grade 2 winning hurdler hasn’t been seen on the flat since May 2015, hence why Coeur De Lion is giving him so much weight. They both have different styles, with Lil Rockerfeller a hearty front-runner and Coeur De Lion a hold-up horse, so it’ll be intriguing to see how the contest pans out.
