German 1000 Guineas Preview + 15/2 Tip!

Mark Johnston - Royal Ascot

Dusseldorf takes centre stage on Sunday when it hosts the German 1000 Guineas, a race that the British have farmed in recent years. With the German 2000 Guineas going the way of Richard Hannon’s Fox Champion, the raiders are looking to complete a clean sweep of German Guineas. If you’re looking for the best of the British action, our horse racing tips are on site now!

Johnston Looks To Retain His Crown At Dusseldorf

Last year’s rendition of the race went the way of Mark Johnston’s Nyaleti, and he’ll be looking to go back to back in the contest with Main Edition. His filly was a Group 3 winner as a two-year-old, placed in a Group 2 to end her juvenile campaign. She was poor on return in the Nell Gwyn, but this step up to the mile should suit her and her best form puts her straight into the mix.

The other British challenger is Tom Dascombe’s Iconic Choice, an extremely progressive filly who ended her two-year-old season with a Listed win at Newbury. She went down by a short-head in Group 3 company on her return prior to a midfield finish in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket. She kept on extremely well that day and further progress is expected over the mile.

Germany Looks For First Success Since 2015

The leading German contender looks to be Andreas Wöhler’s Axana, a filly who has won three of her four starts. She was stepped up to the mile on her latest start when easily landing a Group 3 at Cologne. She’s thoroughly unexposed at the distance and the best is surely yet to come, giving her a leading chance.

The most interesting one in the race, however, is the Henk Grewe trained Shalona. She’s an unbeaten filly who beat Sharoka to land a Listed race over course and distance last month. Both trainer and jockey are looking for their first wins in the race and this filly looks just the ticket, with exponential improvement expected for further racing at this distance.

Shalona can be backed at 15/2 with Racebets, as Germany finally look to regain their own 1000 Guineas!
