Ger Lyons – Emotional day in store at Navan with Medicine Jack

Ger Lyons is racing at Navan today and what looked an ordinary days racing has been made that little bit more special as they have named a race in honour of MERRYN LACY. Tragically, Merryn was a little girl who recently lost her battle with neuroblastoma. Ger trained a horse last season for her in a bid to raise some much needed funds for her treatment and we have no doubt they will be trying very hard to land today’s opening maiden.

The first race at Navan (1.55) is Merryn’s race and they have declared MEDICINE JACK (15/8) to do battle for the yard. There is also a sense of irony with the horses’ name and it would be absolutely fantastic if he could land the race in memory of such a special little girl. Ger really likes this colt and he felt he was a bit too keen sending him to Newbury the last day he ran, only a few days after his debut in Leopardstown where he caught the eye in 3rd.

Ger quoted: “We felt he ran too free at Newbury and as his homework has always been very good, I’ve decided to have a go today. I know that there’s a lovely pink winners sheet with Merryn’s name on it and here’s hoping it’s on our lad later today!”

All horse racing fans want Medicine Jack to win this race today and if he does win, the roof will come off at Navan.
