GAMBLE ALERT – 3 Daniel Steele Runners Smashed

It has been done before and it could happen again. Charles Byrnes pulled off a stunning gamble at Roscommon in 2016. Since then, there have been failed Jamie Osborne and Johnny Levins gambles but that’s not to say that it can’t happen for small trainer Daniel Steele tomorrow. We are not saying that he has any part to play in this gamble but someone is putting lots of money down on his runners’ this evening. Let’s have a look at his runners and you can make up your own mind after that. The Treble is 135/1 at current prices with BetVictor and you can back it in 1-Click using our betslip. Bear in mind that Landscape is a possible and likely Non Runner on Tuesday morning so it may well be just the double.

(3.00pm Lingfield) ACCORDING TO THEM (40/1 into 6/1)

If you are looking for a progressive horse, look away now. This 13 year old has certainly had better days but it is very interesting that connections put on the first time visor and tongue-tie at such a ripe old age. The jockey booking, Gavin Sheehan, is very interesting. This is the first time a claimer hasn’t rode the horse since 2014 so they clearly could mean business tomorrow. He was a winner off a mark of 79 on heavy ground at Plumpton two years ago and runs off 78 tomorrow so if they have him spot on, with heavy ground forecast, he could run a huge race.

(3.20 Wolverhampton) PULSATING (10/1 into 3/1)

Very interesting runner and this three year old filly is the only course and distance winner in the field which can be a major advantage. She ran in a handicap at Kempton just three days ago but could never get into it from a tough draw in Stall 8. She is now thrown into a claimer which will be an easier assignment and it’s very interesting that the money has come for her. Kieran Schofield takes off 7 pounds to make life easier at the weights but she has a strong odds-on favourite to beat here.

(4.30 Lingfield) LANDSCAPE (10/1 into 11/4)

Another big gamble taking place on this runner at Lingfield for Steele, and Gavin Sheehan is also booked for this ride. The 9 year old gelding was last successful way back in 2012 on heavy ground over this trip so conditions will certainly suit if they have him in top order. That victory came off a mark of 124 and although he has been terribly out of form for years at this stage, if they have unlocked the key to him, a mark of 89 will be extremely lenient. That is a 35 pound lower mark so he has obvious claims off this mark!

However, it was a surprise to Mr Steele to see that his horses’ have been well backed, and he said on Monday evening: “It’s nothing to do with me. I got a message to say that all three had been backed, but Landscape won’t run as he scoped dirty this afternoon but I’ve been too busy to declare him a non-runner. He will be scratched in the morning.”

Interestingly, the trainer was connected to the horses’ involved in the Sheena West gamble in November 2015. Landscape – the expected Non Runner – was part of that gamble having been owned by Steele.
