Galway festival Day 6: Our picks include a British raider in Saturday’s main event
We’ve been spoilt for choice this week, with Glorious Goodwood and the Galway festival on offer, and we’re back with some more tips to follow at Ballybrit on Saturday. Amongst them is an Olly Murphy-trained British raider in the feature race on the card, the €110,000 BOYLE Sports Handicap Hurdle. Willie Mullins looks well set to land another winner or two as well and there’s plenty to look forward to. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
2.02 Galway
Columbus was a Group 3 winner in France before joining Willie Mullins and he was second on stable and hurdling debut at Killarney in May. He was last seen finishing down the field in the Queen Alexandra at Royal Ascot but the form of his hurdles run has been boosted and progress seems likely in this sphere.
2.37 Galway
Paul’s Dream has been in good form recently, winning her last two starts by wide margins, and the form of her latest success has been boosted, as the runner-up placed in the Galway Hurdle. It will be a bit more difficult now on a 10lb higher mark but it might prove prudent to keep the faith on this occasion.
3.12 Galway
Olly Murphy sends Sir Galahad over for this race and there could be more to come from him in handicap company. He wasn’t disgraced in graded company as a novice and saw the trip out well when winning a Uttoxeter handicap by 11 lengths last time out. Going up in trip here, the extended 2m6f could suit and the five-year-old has a decent prize in him.
4.27 Galway
Aidan O’Brien hasn’t managed to land a winner at Galway this week but that could change here. Victory Speech is related to several winners and the son of Wootton Bassett kept on well to finish second over 7f on debut. The step up in trip will suit on that evidence and he’s expected to get off the mark here.
5.00 Galway
Gliondar represents the in-form Joseph O’Brien yard and he did very well to finish second by a neck on debut at the Curragh last month, as he looked very green at a key stage. That experience won’t be lost on him and a more professional display will surely lead to the shedding of his maiden tag.
