Friday’s racing: Follow Dan Skelton at Uttoxeter and heavy ground horses at Haydock

Dan Skelton is firing in winners all over the place at the moment and he’s clearly Uttoxeter‘s leading trainer this season, so we’ve selected a couple of his best chances. Conditions are going to be very testing at Haydock and heavy ground horses should come to the fore there. Irish trainer Adrian McGuinness also sends a runner to Britain and you can check out our free tips page for daily content.

Skelton is the man at Uttoxeter

Turbocharged was a well beaten third on debut in a Newbury bumper but the winner did finish third in Cheltenham’s Champion Bumper and he improved significantly to win well at Haydock in March. Further progress is expected over hurdles and it might take a smart one to beat him here.

Getawhisky was an easy winner of a Class 2 mares’ novice hurdle at Windsor back in January and if returning to that level of form, she could be set for a return to winning ways. Several of her relatives have won over fences, so the switch to the larger obstacles could facilitate some improvement.

Service Minimum has won three of her last four starts and that includes an of impressive victory in Class 2 company. Skelton’s mare landed a handicap hurdle at Newton Abbot on her return last month and is well set to follow up, despite a 6lb rise in the weights.

Irish raider alert

Adrian McGuinness sends a runner over to Uttoxeter on Friday and Sean Bowen has been booked for the ride. Bryson probably has a bit to find on the evidence of his form over hurdles so far. He probably won’t get a better opportunity than this however, as it’s a pretty weak-looking affair.

Heavy ground horses for Haydock

Desperate Dan is one of six runners who has previously won on heavy ground but one of two with two wins. His last success victory over this trip at Doncaster last season and he has slipped to a nice mark.

The Resdev Scholar was victorious in both of his previous starts on heavy ground and they both came in nursery company last term. A mile should be no problem and his current mark is appealing.
