There’s lots of racing to look forward to on Friday, with seven meetings from Britain and Ireland, so we’ve picked out a couple of interesting angles to follow. Dan Skelton has been in fine form recently so we’ve put his two runners in Bangor‘s two best races into a juicy double. A Royal Ascot winner returns to the scene of his big win and there’s a notable Irish raider at the Berkshire track too. Royal Ascot winner on show
George Boughey’s Moonfall produced an excellent performance to win the Britannia Stakes on just his second start in handicap company at the royal meeting in June. Clearly the three-year-old remains lightly raced, so it’s entirely possible that there’s more to come from him.
Fourth in a good race at Newmarket last time out, he might need to take a step forward off this mark on that evidence but the son of Starman is entitled to do so and is definitely one to watch on Friday.
Dan Skelton at the double?
Champion trainer Dan Skelton is operating at a very healthy strike-rate in the last couple of weeks so his representatives in Bangor’s two best races need to go under consideration.
Thickthorn Tom has been prolific over the summer and has managed to win four of his last five starts, finishing second on the other occasion. Those wins have come in lesser races but he looks ready for the step up in grade here and it would be very dangerous to rule out another victory.
Kiwi De Cotte is 2/3 over hurdles and he won a maiden at Market Rasen by six lengths on his first start over timber. Returning to winning ways on handicap debut when last seen, the handicapper has responded with a 6lb rise and there’s scope for a significant amount of improvement.
Irish raider
Hambelton represents Irish trainer David Marnane and he is set to run in Ascot’s closing 7f handicap. He has been in good form recently and produced a game performance to win at Gowran last time out. Running off a 5lb higher mark here, the lightly raced gelding can step forward again.
