Four top quality races worthy of some words from us this Friday on Day One of the world Thoroughbred Championships as the Americans like to so grandly call them, but terminology the rest of the World may not realistically agree with! To be realistic, we need to temper the hope for British and European success with their actual chances having travelled this far across the planet, but as the majority of the American form is not as clear or obvious to us (and we are patriotic), we may be better off focussing on our runners and hoping just the one or two winner will provide a tasty profit, especially if you wait and take the local Starting Price after the Americans have backed their own horses.

7.30pm Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf –  1m – Free Tip

Hit A Bomb at 9/2

Every race looks close to impossible to solve but we will start by wishing Richard Fahey the best of luck with his first Breeders up runner in Birchwood, even if we don’t think he can win! Aidan O’Brien seems quietly confident he has the winner in the undefeated Hit It A Bomb, unimpressive on his debut but awesome in a Listed race last time out. He has a great chance for the away team to start the day with a bang (pun intended), while local hope Airoforce also impressed over course and distance in a decent enough time, and is the one we would suggest for a mad forecast for those who like that sort of thing at this early stage!

8.10pm Breeders Cup Dirt Mile – 1m – Free Tip

Liam’s Map at 4/5

Our man at the track has been watching the horses work this week and the locals are adamant that Liam’s Map is their banker of the meeting. One loss in six starts is a handy record to go to war with but it is the manner of his last success that makes him stand out after he made all and cruised home unchallenged at Saratoga in the Grade One Woodward Stakes. If he tries the same tactics (why wouldn’t he), then he avoids any trouble in behind and looks the one they all have to beat – but can’t. Appealing Tale looks a possible each way alternative for those who never play the favourites, and could prove difficult to keep out of the first three at a double figure price, but it’s all about the favourite here and finding out just how good he really is.

8.50pm Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf – 1m – Free Tip

Alice Springs at 3/1

[promo id=”10571″]

Once again back on to the grass and it looks as if we (as in Europe) have decent chances here with Illuminate for starters. Frankie Dettori seems pretty sweet  on her chances and suggested that maybe she needed the run when second to Lumiere when last seen, losing her unbeaten record in the process, but there is a worry about her stamina over this mile, and we are yet to see a slowly run race at a Breeders Cup which may find her out. Alice Springs, on the other hand, looks as if the mile will only see her in an even better light, and after she hacked up in a valuable sales race at Newmarket last time out, this was quickly nominated as her next target.

9.35pm Longines Breeders Cup Distaff – 1m 1f – Free Tip

Wedding Toast at 10/3

Fact is, if Beholder turns out here she will win and do so pulling a cart on all known form, but as things stand she is destined for a Classic confrontation on the Saturday which will be well worth watching we promise you and could well be one of the races of the decade. In her assumed absence we would guess that Wedding Toast will start a fairly short priced favourite based on her three easy wins at Belmont recently, and our American trackwork friends tell us she is the one they all have to beat, and that she looks a picture in her early morning paces. With no European entries we have to take their word for these things but will be looking at a place on course and distance winner Got Luckyfor the legendary Todd Pletcher as an alterative if we don’t like the prices on the day.
