Dual-purpose Irish trainer Denis Hogan is no stranger to British shores but the handler will make his first ever venture to Beverley Racecourse on Tuesday with a sole runner on the card. His Qatari-bred filly has only seen the racecourse once and she’s likely to be a very big price on the day! Let’s look at her more closely below.
London is a Qatari-bred filly and she is sired by St Mark’s Basilica. She is a half-sister to US winners Auction Fever (1m dirt) and Aspen Hilltop (6.5f dirt 2yo), while her dam, Home Sweet Aspen, was a 7f Grade 1 winner (RPR 111) in the US. It’s clear that she’s bred for dirt so that’s a cautionary word here on grass.
In April, London made her debut over 6f at Naas on good to soft ground and she was not fancied in the market at all, going off at odds of 100/1. She ran accordingly too as she was slowly away and never a factor when 26 lengths behind the Aidan O’Brien trained winner, Simply Astounding.
The form of that maiden has also not worked out well at all so the form is certainly questionable. She will now have her second career start in the extended 7f fillies’ novice at Beverley and although she only has four rivals to worry about, she has to improve a ridiculous amount to get involved here.
Archie Watson’s Private Object is the one that they all have to beat after her runner-up finish at Lingfield on debut, while as we saw at Royal Ascot, there’s no better trainer of a 2yo than Karl Burke and he runs debutante Hope Queen.
