Saturday is going to be another cracking day of racing action, with a good mix of National Hunt and Flat action on offer. Sandown hosts an excellent card and the main races are the bet365 Gold Cup and the Celebration Chase. There’s also Group action on the Flat at Navan, as well as a further six meetings.
Willie Mullins’ only runner of the day heads over to Sandown and we’ve also got some outsiders and horses for courses to follow. There’s a potential Royal Ascot star at Navan and the horse in question is Gold Cup bound. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Road To Home has only had five starts over fences so far and he produced a career-best performance to finish second by a neck in the Kim Muir at the Cheltenham Festival last time out. Keeping on well that day, Ask Brewster was his conqueror on that occasion but he could reverse the form this time around.
Scandinavia improved throughout the season last term and quickly became a very smart stayer. He managed to beat his elders in the Goodwood Cup and followed up with a game success in the St Leger. Making his return in the Vintage Crop Stakes, he looks well set for another big season.
Last Round (22/1, bet365) is thoroughly unexposed over hurdles and this will be his handicap debut. Ben Pauling’s gelding managed to get off the mark at the third time of asking in a Fontwell maiden when last seen. There could be any amount of improvement still to come so don’t rule him out.
Certainly Red (28/1, bet365) has a decent record here at Sandown and he was a solid fourth in this race a couple of years ago. Lydia Richards’ 12-year-old was entitled to need the run when third here after a substantial absence last month and he should come on for the run.
Jonbon has won five of his seven starts at Sandown and finished second twice. Nicky Henderson’s star chaser has already won this race twice so it wouldn’t be a surprise if he makes it three here.
Resplendent Grey won this very last race, albeit off a 10lb lower mark, but the fact that his stamina is confirmed is a big plus. It’s worth noting that he was second in a Grade 2 novices’ chase on his only other start at Sandown and perhaps he will go close once again.
