Arsenal v Olympiakos – Arsenal to win

Although Arsenal were just about deservedly beaten by Zagreb on match day one, they did play over half the game with 10 men. Back in front of a home crowd against Olympiakos tonight looks a good opportunity for them to make amends, by getting off the mark at the second time of asking. The visitors – although a solid side domestically – were soundly beaten by a cantering Bayern side in their first group game. In recent years these two sides have met each other quite a lot in the Champions League, with the result generally going the way of the home side. Tonight this pattern is expected to continue and Arsenal should have enough in the locker to come out on top.

BATE v Roma – Roma to win

On match day one, BATE did little to rid their tag of “whipping boys” as they surrendered 4-1 at the hands of Bayer Leverkusen. They were comfortably beaten and despite levelling matters at 1-1 early in the first half, they managed only two shots on goal in the entire game. Roma on the other hand, turned in a very respectable performance as they drew 1-1 against reigning champions, Barcelona. Despite scoring a goal which arose from somewhat fortuitous circumstances they played well. In truth there is only one outcome that looks likely this evening, and that is a win for the Italian side. Being a side with plenty of attacking talent and pace, Roma should be capable of returning back home with all three points.

M.Tel Aviv v Dynamo Kiev – Draw

Certainly not as clear cut as some, this match looks reasonably evenly matched on paper. Kiev hosted FC Porto in the opening game, and although only taking a point, they played pretty well in parts and a 2-2 draw wasn’t a bad result against a pretty good side. Tel Aviv on the other hand were pretty poor as they travelled to Chelsea and put up little resistance as they were comfortably beaten 4-0. However, tonight is a different prospect altogether. They play at home for a start, where they have been in solid form of late. Also, Kiev are a side with less top quality players, and have had to travel nearly 2,400 miles for this game. It is expected that Tel Aviv won’t be as easily pushed over tonight, and Kiev who are marked up as the 10/11 favourites might just struggle to take all three points.

Lyon v Valencia – Lyon to win

Again, not the easiest match to gage, but on a night where the nailed on favourites such as Bayern are just ridiculously short, Lyon are worth chancing. Valencia are the visitors tonight, and have started the season pretty poorly by their standards. They were beaten at home by Zenit on match day one and have since managed to win only one in three domestically. Scoring just one goal. As for Lyon, they walked away from their opening game away to Gent with a 1-1 draw. They dominated the match and would’ve been the deserved winners had Lacazette successfully converted from the spot in the closing minutes. Aside from missing out on the three points, they dominated the game and played pretty well. They were poor at the weekend away to Bordeaux, but back in front of a home crowd tonight in front of a Valencia side with struggles of their own could bring them back to form.
